FOOD: Grow More, Eat Less
In the first official forecast of total 1943 food production, the Agriculture Department predicted:
> A 10% drop from last year in farm crops.
> A 10% increase in meat (chiefly pork), poultry and eggs.
> An overall increase of 4% in food of all kinds.
But civilians will not eat more this year than last. Civilians, forced to get along on the remaining 75% of the year's yield, will eat 3.7% less than last year.
They will have more pork, eggs, chickens, fluid milk, fats, oranges, potatoes and beans. They will have less beef, lamb, fish, fruits and vegetables, sugar, rice, tea, cocoa, butter, cheese.
