With a cavernous, crashing rumble and roar which made thousands of people stir in their sleep, and with a titanic splash and spuming which only a few noctambulating tourists beheld, the Niagara River did early one morning last week something that it has not done since 1850—chewed off another giant chunk of the ledge which makes Niagara Falls.
