OPINION: The People Agree
An overwhelming majority of the U.S. is against any compromise whatsoever in the Pacific war, according to the latest FORTUNE Survey of Public Opinion. More than 80% of the people questioned declared they would not settle for withdrawal of Japanese forces from China, Malaya, The Netherlands East Indies, etc. as a condition of leaving the Japanese homeland unoccupied. Like their Government, they stood for unconditional surrender—everywhere.
