Radio: ABC
When the Blue network changed its name to the American Broadcasting Co. (TIME, June 25), it obviously wanted the simple call letters "ABC." But the smaller Associated Broadcasting Corp. network, which got there first, promptly sued. To prove that there is nothing simple about the ABCs, American last week paid Associated $25,000 out of court for rights to the initials.* For that sum, Associated gladly called itself a "system" rather than a "corporation," said that it would henceforth be known as ABS.
* American had already paid off Arizona Broadcasting Co. for its claim to ABC.
