Though critics continued to throw hard words, dead cats and many a mean look at her, Secretary of Labor Perkins last week still kept her little chin fiercely firm. Popping up at a gathering of A.F. of L. electrical workers, she declared with quiet pride: "I am here as an official of the United States, and I am here speaking for the President." Added Ma Perkins calmly: "There never has been a time in the history of the country when there was more unity of purpose, more unity of understanding than there is tonight. ..."
