Canada: THE DOMINION: Rolling Through the Yukon
The 1,523-mile Alaska Highway, now an all-weather (gravel) road from Dawson Creek, B.C. to Fairbanks, Alaska, was finally opened to tourists. Among new accommodations: public camping grounds (with fresh water and cooking stoves) in the 600-mile stretch through Yukon Territory. Canada's advice to tourists: make reservations early (inns are few & far between) or bring camping equipment.
