The Price of Eggs

In Manila, political observers wondered what would be the issue between President Sergio Osmeña and his rival, Senate President Manuel Roxas (TIME, June 11), in the first postwar presidential election. Last week the Philippine Press defined it:

"When the late Wendell Willkie ran for President of the U.S., eggs were thrown at him. ... In the next election here, eggs will not be thrown. They are far too scarce. They will be the issue."
