The Press: Slamming the Door

Censors around the world gave the press a rough time:

¶ Ireland's prim Censorship of Publications Board slapped a ban of six months to a year on 14 U.S. magazines. Sample titles: Nifty, All True Fact Crime Cases, Special Detective. Esquire, banned nine months ago for being "indecent and obscene," was suspended indefinitely.

¶ Venezuela's military dictatorship government booted out Robert Berrellez, 30, Arizona-born chief of the A.P.'s Caracas bureau. Berrellez was not told why he was ordered out, but the U.S. embassy was informed that he had written articles that had been offensive to the government.
