National Affairs: Chance to Act
Invoking the 1954 Communist Control Act for the first time, Attorney General Brownell last week charged before the Subversive Activities Control Board that the International Union of Mine, Mill and Smelter Workers is dominated by Communists. If the charge sticks, the Red-tainted unionnow on strike in the copper industrywill lose its rights under the Labor-Management Relations Act. The Government hopes that the members will throw out their Red bosses.
