A Place in the Sun. In Red Bank. N.J., the Chamber of Commerce protested a telephone-company decision to name the town's dial exchange "Shadyside.'' argued that the proposed name would have a "hick-town connotation."
Sales Force. In Los Angeles, the Phil Hall Buick Co. got a $20.93 bill from the traffic department after the elephant it rented as a promotion stunt tore the top off a parking meter, smashed it on the sidewalk.
Protective Coloring. In Tokyo, after a brief investigation, pol:ce felt that they had spotted the man behind a recent rash of wristwatch smuggling, arrested Noboru Higasa, chairman of a local crime-prevention society.
Prodigal. In Leicester. England, two hours after he escaped from jail. Dennis Anson rang the bell at the front gate, asked the warden to let him back in. ex plained: "I'm tired and cold. Besides. I split my pants."
Unkindest Cut. In McCallsburg, Iowa, after being nabbed for driving a stolen car. Charles L. Cox admitted to police that the unforeseen arrest had forced him to cancel his plan to rob a nearby bank.
Go-Getter. In Rio de Janeiro, an ad appeared in the classified-section of the English-language daily, the Brazil Herald: "Girl wants part-time job where she can sleep, please call."
Holiday. In Manhattan, Bus Driver Fred La Veccia was booked on a grand larceny charge after he toured the city in an empty bus on his day off, parked it near his home toward evening, blandly told police: "I love bus driving."
A Yotre Sante. In Amarillo. Texas, determined to prevent her husband from having h's final Sunday bottle of beer, Mrs. Gertrude Camile drove her car through the saloon doorway, tore off 12 ft. of wall in a run that caused $1,000 damage to the bar. stepped out into the wreckage-strewn mess and clubbed him with a two-by-four.
Advancement of Learning. In Tokyo, on a survey to test health conditions in the city's theaters, Meteorologist Dr.
Miho Daigo set up his sensitive equipment at an all-girl revue, reported that temperature in the theater rose two degrees each time the girls went into their hottest numbers.
Public Relations. In Mount Clemens, Mich., charged with running through a traffic light. Robert Eastman interrupted the court hearing to announce that he would be a candidate for Congress in the 1956 Democratic Party primary.
