¶ In the Philippines, which had offered 5,000 men to General MacArthur, 20 Congressmen resolved to go along with the troops as a committee. Then they read the fine print of their own resolution: they had agreed to go as combat infantrymen. Nobody backed out, but, a Congressional skeptic scoffed: "Half of them will surely flunk the physical exams."
