What with an uncomfortable closeness to Russia, increased Communist activity on every side, recurrent strikes and an economic situation that would not settle down, the summer of 1950 was enough to drive Finns to drink. Fact is, it did. A member of Finland's Alcohol Monopoly Board last week revealed that liquor consumption in Finland for June, July and August of this year showed an increase of 20, 22 and 30% over the same months in 1949.
