¶ In Manhattan, the University of Kentucky basketball team, No. 1 in the nation, over Illinois, 76-74 (in the closing seconds), for the Eastern N.C.A.A. title.

¶ In Kansas City, Kansas State's basketball team over Oklahoma A. & M., the nation's No. 2 team, 68-44, for the Western N.C.A.A. title and the right to meet Kentucky this week.

¶ In the National Hockey League, Detroit, Toronto, Montreal and Boston, places in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

¶ In Bethlehem, Pa., Oklahoma over Oklahoma A. & M., 24-23, in the 46-college meet for the N.C.A.A. wrestling championship.

¶ In Cairo, a U.S. Embassy team (made up mostly of Marines) over Egypt, 11-6, in the first baseball game ever played by Egyptians.

¶ In San Mateo, Calif., Special Touch, the $15,000-added Alameda Handicap. Calumet Farm's favored Coaltown, making his third comeback start, finished ninth.
