Who's for Whom?

In regular Democratic ranks, there was a trend toward Adlai Stevenson. Among those who joined it: Indiana's Governor Henry F. Schricker, Missouri's Democratic National Committeeman John J. Nangle, Under Secretary of the Army Archibald S. Alexander (who is resigning to run for the Senate in New Jersey), and the New York Post.

Other endorsements of the week:

¶ Iowa Democratic Chairman Jake More said he is personally "very friendly" to Oklahoma's Senator Robert Kerr. ¶ Senator Kerr's Oklahoma colleague, Senator Mike Monroney, said he thinks House Speaker Sam Rayburn is "a natural" for the job. Another Rayburn man: Texas Representative Wright Patman.

¶ Said DemocraticRepresentative Mike Mansfield of Montana: General Eisenhower is still "worth considering" as a coalition candidate to head both tickets.

¶Connecticut's Democratic Chairman John M. Bailey offered a man from his own state who, he said, can be made "more than a favorite-son candidate": Senator Brien McMahon.

¶Senator Earle C. Clements ofKentucky also announced for a man from his own state: Alben Barkley. CJ Oveta Gulp Hobby, former chief of the WACs, now publisher of the Houston Post, announced that she likes Ike.

¶Friend-Winner &People-Influencer Dale Carnegie is for Eisenhower. Said he: "Dwight D. Eisenhower is by word, deed, personality and performance one of the greatest living examples of how to win friends and influence people."
