Signs of health in the economy last week:
¶ Department-store sales up 24% over last year.
¶ Steel production up to 88% of capacity, 13% over early January.
¶Auto output up to 128,319 cars. 6% above the week before.
¶ Prices remarkably stable; wholesale prices dipped a fraction to reach a ten-month low.
¶ The Pennsylvania Railroad approved construction of 11,500 new freight cars, beginning an extensive program to meet growing business.
