World: Bonfire in PX Alley

A common sight in Saigon is the row upon row of sidewalk stalls heaped high with everything from hair spray to Scotch to cartons of Salem cigarettes—goods that obviously were filched from American supplies or illegally bought from G.I.s and others with privileges at the post exchange. Last week in Saigon's "PX Alley," police dramatized a new drive to stamp out the huge black-market traffic in American goods by confiscating illegal items from scores of sidewalk shops and tossing them onto a huge bonfire.
