Though the Chicago police were officially whitewashed by a special investigating committee of six unemployed American Legionnaires for shooting and clubbing ten men to death outside a Republic Steel plant one Sunday last May, the city's officials were left holding an exceedingly hot potato. Arrested during the massacre were 63 men & women, many of them badly wounded. They were originally held on charges of conspiracy.
