SPAIN: Through the Ceiling
In Lisbon, Spanish Pretender Don Juan hit the ceiling of his modest Portuguese hostel. Generalissimo Francisco Franco had propositioned him. The proposition (conveyed by Franco's brother Nicolas, who is Spain's Ambassador to Lisbon): Don Juan's eldest son, 9, should be handed over to the Franco Government to be trained in the principles of "the new Spanish order." Thus the dynasty would serve as a front for Franco, and the princeling would serve as a hostage if the dynasty became troublesome.
Cried Pretender Don Juan: "I am not prepared to be treated by General Franco as if I were the Sultan of Morocco."
