Science: Acres of Dinosaurs
Last week in Moscow, Paleontologist I. A. Efremov announced that he had found "millions" of dinosaur skeletons in the Gobi Desert of Mongolia. It might well prove to be the biggest dinosaur graveyard in the world. The skeletons lie from 49 to 131 feet deep, apparently in the bed of an ancient river.
All sorts of ancient monsters are jumbled together there. One is a horned reptile 36 feet long, which took 20 days to dig up. Another is a 98-foot creature that walked on its hind legs.
Dr. Edwin H. Colbert of New York City's American Museum of Natural History thinks that the find may be genuine and important: Dr. Efremov has a high reputation among the world's paleontologists. But Dr. Colbert also thinks that a million dinosaurs is a lot of dinosaurs.
