British law, in its impartial majesty, forbids members of Parliament to include their franked mail indecent slogans as well as those exciting sumptuary or religious passions. Therefore, Labor members were indignant last week when they discovered that Conservative members were franking a slogan not clearly covered by law but clearly not cricket: "Happy New Year and a new government soon." The Laborites protested. The Tories promised to desist.
