LABOR: Wolf in Creep's Clothing
The Textile Workers Union, C.I.O., plaintively asked the NLRB to throw out the results of an election in which it had failed to gain jurisdiction at the Charroin Manufacturing Co. of San Diego. Their charge: that Plant Manager Walter L. Berry Jr. had influenced the voting by dressing up like Simon Legree (i.e., in a long black coat, a black hat, boots and a big black mustache) and rushing through the plant cracking a large whip and crying, "You must vote!" But after listening to Berry's explanationthat the union had given him the idea by getting out a pamphlet in which he was depicted as a saliva-drooling wolfthe board decided to let the results stand.
