The Devil's Disciple. Shaw's tongue-in-cheek, neck-in-noose melodramatics of the American Revolution, rising to a loud barrage of wit (TIME, Feb. 6).

The Cocktail Party. T. S. Eliot's brilliant verse play of worldlings and martyrs, drawing rooms and consulting rooms, Freud and faith (TIME, Jan. 30).

The Member of the Wedding. Carson McCullers' sensitive study of a lonely, self-centered, self-dramatizing little Southern girl just one step from adolescence (TIME, Jan. 16).

Caesar and Cleopatra. Shaw's portrait of an aging Julius Caesar who rules by force but sighs for reason (TIME, Jan. 2).

Touch and Go. Bright, campus-born topical revue, not always polished but consistently pert (TIME, Oct. 24).
