Whale-Mouthed Whirlybird. A two-rotor military helicopter big enough to carry three jeeps or 26 fully equipped infantrymen was demonstrated for Marine Corps brass by Sikorsky Aircraft Co. A pair of clamshell doors swing wide to admit passengers or cargo through a whale-sized mouth. New features: retractable landing gear to cut air resistance, a five-bladed front rotor (the rear rotor has four blades). Speed: better than 150 m.p.h. Name: XHR2s
Portable Escort. A tiny but clamorous siren for unescorted women to carry at night was put on sale by Dallas' Atlas Alarm Corp. Noisy enough to be heard a quarter of a mile away, the spring-powered siren is intended to scare off molesters and summon rescuers. Price: $12.95.
Liquid Wallpaper. An embossed paint roller that can decorate walls with wallpaper-like designs was brought out by Sherwin-Williams Co. The plastic roller comes in five patterns must be used with a new Sherwin-Williams paint called Applikay. Roller price: $7.69.
Fishermen's Friend. A sonar apparatus for locating schools of fish was put on sale by Minneapolis-Honeywell Regulator Co. Other commercial fish-finding devices work only when the boat is directly above the school; Sea Scanar sends out sound impulses in a 180° arc, has located fish as far off as a quarter of a mile. Price (uninstalled): $4,924.75.
Carbonless Copies. A treated paper for making multiple copies of business forms without using carbon inserts has been developed by National Cash Register Co.
The sheet has two different colorless coatings, one on each side. Where the typewriter face or pencil point presses the two coatings together, a chemical reaction turns the lower sheet's top coating blue.
