The Army displayed last week a new combat radio that will let G.I.s talk through their helmets. Using transistors instead of vacuum tubes, the radio is small enough to be built to fit into a soldier's helmet. It was developed by the Signal Corps, is designed with a normally short range so that squad members can exchange information without fear of eavesdropping by the enemy. But with a "man-from-Mars" antenna attached on top of the helmet, soldiers can talk to, and receive orders from, command posts more than a mile away.
