CANADA: Year of Plenty
It was another bountiful year for Canada's economy as it was for the U.S. (see BUSINESS). Canada's economic boss, Trade and Commerce Minister C. D. Howe, surveying the business-performance charts last week, found that every vital lineproduction, employment, income and investmentcontinued sharply upward during 1956.
¶ Canada's gross national product soared to $29.5 billion, an increase of more than 10%. The year's growth matched the 1955 rate, and raised the country's production to a level six times as high as it was 20 years ago.
