3. Georgia Tech (4-0)—made a ball carrier out of Blocking Back Taz Anderson, turned him loose for both touchdowns in a 14-7 defeat of tough, unbeaten Tennessee.

4. Northwestern (3-0)—Bob Eickhoff, a fourth-string, 157-lb. quarterback, led a desperate, last-period march to eke out a none-too-impressive 6-0 victory over aroused Minnesota.

5. Iowa (2-1)—trampled over rising Michigan State, 37-8.

6. Texas (4-0)—rallied from a 0-12 deficit to soundly trounce fading Oklahoma, 19-12.

8. Mississippi (4-0)—remained undefeated, untied and unscored-upon by lacing feeble Vanderbilt, 33-0.

9. Syracuse (3-0)—proved the early-season class of the East by sinking Navy, 32-6.

10. Tennessee (2-1)—showed solidity even while losing to Georgia Tech, 14-7.
