4. Northwestern (3-0)Bob Eickhoff, a fourth-string, 157-lb. quarterback, led a desperate, last-period march to eke out a none-too-impressive 6-0 victory over aroused Minnesota.
5. Iowa (2-1)trampled over rising Michigan State, 37-8.
6. Texas (4-0)rallied from a 0-12 deficit to soundly trounce fading Oklahoma, 19-12.
7. Purdue (2-0-1)routed seasoned Wisconsin, 21-0, as Quarterback Bernie Allen threw three touchdown passes.
8. Mississippi (4-0)remained undefeated, untied and unscored-upon by lacing feeble Vanderbilt, 33-0.
9. Syracuse (3-0)proved the early-season class of the East by sinking Navy, 32-6.
10. Tennessee (2-1)showed solidity even while losing to Georgia Tech, 14-7.
