RACES: Without Black
It is customary for U. S. Supreme Court Justices not to participate in decisions in which they have a personal interest. This week the Court refused to review, the 75-year prison sentence imposed on Scottsboro Boy Haywood Patterson, affirmed by the Alabama Supreme Court last June. In announcing its decision, the Court noted without comment that onetime Ku Klux Klanner Hugo LaFayette Black "took no part in the consideration and decision. . . ."
