POLITICAL NOTES: Is He Is or Is He Ain't?
Pollster George Gallup investigated the Eisenhower-for-President boom this week. Asked whether Ike is a Republican or a Democrat, 22% of those polled said they thought he was a Republican, 20% a Democrat, 58% said they did not know. (But if Ike wants to run in 1948 it will obviously have to be as a Republican; Harry Truman has the Democratic nomination sewed up.) Asked if they would like to see Ike a presidential candidate, the replies were: yes, 35%; no, 48%; did not know, 17%.
