Vow To Be Different

You only get married once (well, maybe a few times) so you might as well make it fun. Traditionalists may still prefer to get hitched in a house of worship (and we're O.K. with that), but there's no excuse for lining up at a dreary register office when expressive, stylish, even outlandish options abound. Here are a few of our favorite wedding venues:

Lahaina
How deep is your love? Rent a submarine from Hawaiian Island Weddings. The Atlantis will take you, your partner and up to 40 guests 45 m underwater where, at the bottom of the ocean, you can tie the knot (presumably a sailor's knot). The deal costs $5,195, and includes in-sub entertainment from a hula dancer and Hawaiian singer. www.hawaiianislandweddings.com

Dallas
Get your marriage off to a flying start: book a hot-air-balloon wedding with Texas firm The Sky's the Limit. Reverend and balloon pilot Jim Whitesell will take you and your loved one up to around

1,000 m, where he conducts the sky-high service. The package costs $591 and usually lasts an hour. Wedding guests can tail behind in extra balloons, or follow the couple's progress from the ground. www.texasballooning.com

Taro
Why not exchange vows on the back of an elephant? For $1,600, Bali Adventure Tours will organize a pachyderm-packed event in Bali's elephant safari park, a beautiful refuge in the heart of the island. The price includes the hire of six local flower girls and umbrella boys, and a romantic 20-minute ride after you've got hitched. www.baliadventuretours.com

London
Elevate your love by exchanging vows aboard the London Eye. For around $3,050, you can hire a booth and say "I do" at the top of the biggest of big wheels, 135 m above the River Thames. Your matrimonial capsule will hold up to 21 wedding guests, but additional pods may be hired for around $540 each. www.ba-londoneye.com.
