Last week London's Melody Maker magazine announced that its annual readers' popularity poll placed the Beatles in the No. 2 spot—behind the hard-rock quartet, Led Zeppelin. Since the group rose from Liverpool to world renown eight years ago, it was the first time the Beatles had ever slipped below No. 1.
