Education: Results, Not .Fish
Stanford University students may study fish at the Hopkins Marine Station which the late great Ichthyologist David Starr ( Jordan helped found in 1892. But they have no course in hooking, playing and catching fish. Last week it was announced that such a course would be instituted next month. It does not guarantee to inculcate Fair Play, Sportsmanship. Patience et al. as does a course in Hunting & Fishing announced at Rollins College last September (TIME, Sept. 28). Stanford's five-week Fish Course will be part of the physical education program, promises "results but not fish. Students will be taught fly and bait casting. They will learn to tie flies and repair rods. But fish, no. We would not even guarantee Izaak Walton fish, could he be here to take the course."
