On the walls of Manhattan's Squibb Gallery last week hung what was apparently a painting showing a number of little boys skating on ice. Behind this painting lay what seemed to be six window shades. Unrolled, they proved to be six separate paintings on specially woven flexible Dutch canvas that could be detached and placed separately about the walls. This device was the contribution of Artist Hilaire Hiler, 38, to the dilemma of art-lovers living in apartments which lack sufficient wall space to display canvases.
