GERMANY: Goebbels' Russia
To scare the Germans, Paul Joseph Goebbels tried to show them what would happen if Russia invaded the Reich. In Berlin's Lustgarten he set up an exhibition of Russia's worst side, such as dilapidated workers' hovels, a bloodstained door from Minsk prison.
Last week Dr. Goebbels boasted that his show had had a million visitors. But when the exhibition was being dismantled for removal to other cities, Berlin workers cracked that they were glad it was over: they wanted their furniture back.
