In House hearings on the $43 billion Army bill, members heard that:
> For war production the U.S. will need probably 20,000,000 women in industry. Of the 13,000,000 U.S. women now gainfully employed, 1,500,000 are in war industry.
> To feed the Army in fiscal 1943 will cost $1,270,240,00063.86¢ a head daily.
> By mass-production methods, manufacturers have already been able to turn $240,000,000 back to the Army.
