ARLEN SPECTER, the Republican Senator from Pennsylvania, complained of chest pains one recent morning after returning from a Good Morning America interview. A cautious medical team, fearing the worst, rushed the Senator to Bethesda National Naval Medical Center for an overnight series of tests. Result: he was suffering from a simple case of food poisoning. The recovered Republican told Roll Call, the Capitol Hill newspaper, that the sweet roll he ate at the ABC studios was to blame for the sudden attack.
