Serious Make-Believe
Thanks to Richard Corliss for writing the article on Daniel Day-Lewis ((CINEMA, March 21)). It is one of life's great pleasures to see anything done well -- be it brilliant acting from someone working at the top of his form or a celebrity profile as graceful, elegant and intelligent as its subject.

My first introduction to Day-Lewis was his portrayal of the crippled Irishman in the movie My Left Foot. I naively thought the director was lucky to have found a physically challenged individual with such fine acting ability. I have since been amazed by Day-Lewis' chameleon-like ability to conquer any role he has chosen. My only hope is that he continues in his vocation.

The man has depth combined with natural talent. The range of parts Day-Lewis has played so far would be enough for a lifetime for other actors.
