Health: Who's Feeling Low Down?

In a survey of 166,574 Americans, researchers found that in the late 1990s, adults in the U.S. felt "sad, blue or depressed" an average of three days a month. Women and young adults were more prone to funks than men or seniors. Down days were associated with bad habits (smoking, physical inactivity) and tough circumstances (poverty, unemployment). Underweight subjects, however, had almost twice as many blue days as those who were overweight.
