The Last Idealists
(2 of 2)
Not all Craigslisters are pleased by the hookup. They fear the deal is a death knell for the site's independent ethos. "Say it isn't so, Craig!!!" pleaded one post to the site's message board. Others are worried that the deal will lead to censorship of Craigslist's explicit personal ads and will end with eBay's buying the whole shebang.
Not to worry, reply Newmark and Buckmaster: the Craigslist ethos is here to stay. While Newmark admits he was wounded by some of the personal attacks in the wake of the eBay deal, the criticism in some ways was reassuring: "It's good to be reminded of what you're about."
