Oliver North's victory in the Virginia's Republican Convention for U.S. Senate has some of the biggest names in the G.O.P. gunning for him. From the Senate's Bob Dole to former Presidents Reagan and even Ford, no one in Republican officialdom seems to have a good thing to say about the G.O.P.'s challenger to sitting Democratic Senator Charles Robb. But that doesn't mean Robb's a sure thing: No fewer than four candidates are vying for the seats, and both parties are extraordinarily fractured, reports Laurence Barrett, TIME correspondent covering the election. If anyone other than Clinton-loyalist Robb wins the upcoming election, that's trouble for the White House.
