BROADWAY'S BEST

The Tony Awards, to honor Broadway's best, had a decidedly British accent, with London productions taking 13 prizes. But the two biggest winners were Yanks: Tony Kushner's "Angels in America: Perestroika," took home the title of Best Play, while Stephen Sondheim's "Passion" was the Best Musical. A major trend in a generally mediocre season was the success of revivals, which captured 12 Tony's. TIME Theater Critic William A. Henry III points out that the ceremony represented the "Night of the Living Dead," since it seems that theater is subsisting primarily on its past.
