CRACKS IN THE 'NAM WALL

The 12-year-old stark black granite walls of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington are cracking. The monument, which lists the American war dead from that conflict, shows only hairline fractures at the moment. But the apparent flaws have prompted a study, to be announced tomorrow, to pinpoint causes of the damage. Proceeds from U.S. coins minted to commemorate the Memorial and Vietnam veterans will pay for the work.
