THE BEATLES ARE BACK . . . FOR REAL, SORT OF
The three surviving members of the legendary Beatles reunited their talents in a private recording session in London. This effort marks the first time since the band broke up 24 years ago that Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and George Harrison have recorded together. TIME news-desk editor and Compleat Beatles source, Eileen Harkin, reports that their first single will be a John Lennon song called "Free as a Bird." Yoko Ono, Lennon's widow, gave McCartney her husband's demo to the song. Thanks to the miracle of digital mixing, the three remaining Beatles will sing back-up to John's lead, and McCartney will add a verse. The new tracks will debut during an as yet unscheduled 10-part television documentary about the group, and then released on compact disc.
