FLUNKING THE BEST AND BRIGHTEST
Students worldwide get low marks from their professors for their ability to handle college, but few students fare worse than Americans, according to a recent study. The number of American teachers satisfied with their students' math and quantitative reasoning abilities reached only 15 percent -- the lowest of any of the 14 nations surveyed by the Carnegie Foundation. Only 20 percent of American professors feel that their students have the adequate written or oral communication skills necessary, just slightly higher than Israeli professors who ranked their students worst in this category. To post your view, click Time Message Boards, open National Affairs folder, select "Education 2000".
