KOREAS . . . BRINGING THEM TOGETHER

North Korea said it would freeze its nuclear weapons program, meeting the White House's most important demand for renewed talks. The U.S. responded by saying it would renew talks with Pyongyang. North Korea also accepted the South's offer to hold a summit, another potential harvest from former President Jimmy Carter's visit last week. If the peace effort takes place, it will be the first high-level meeting between the two countries since they split after World War II.
