SOME RARE GOOD NEWS FOR SIMPSON DEFENSE

O.J. Simpson won a victory today in court, when the judge dismissed a grand jury that might have quickly returned an indictment against the former football star. Now the process to determine whether the prosecutor has ample evidence for an indictment will be prolonged. The judge disbanded the grand jury on grounds that some of its members may have been affected by the flood of media coverage. As a result, the defense will have a chance to begin picking apart the prosecution's evidence in a June 30 hearing, giving Simpson attorney Robert Shapiro his much desired opportunity to cross-examine -- and undermine the credibility of -- the district attorney's witnesses. Also coming to O.J.'s defense: his current girlfriend, who told NBC's "Today Show," "he never hit me."
