INTERNATIONAL GAY-PRIDE EVENT WRAPS UP
More than 11,000 gay and lesbian athletes from 43 nations converged on New York this week for the fourth annual Gay Games. Begun as a low-profile event to encourage greater visibility for gays and lesbians, this year's games saw one athlete, former Olympic Gold Medalist Bruce Hayes, set a world record in a masters-division swimming event. The athletic tournament coincides with the 25th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, widely considered the beginning of the gay-rights movement. Thousands are expected to participate in a rally Sunday morning.
