IT'S A BATTLE ZONE IN HERE
Staying off the street at night may be safer, but don't look to the office for refuge. A new study by the Justice Department says 1 of every 6 violent crimes in America - - almost 1 million each year - - happens at the workplace. The Department's Bureau of Justice Statistics, which looked at all U.S. crimes from 1987 through 1992, says that includes 16 percent of assaults, 8 percent of rapes and 7 percent of robberies, resulting in annual losses of about 1.8 million workdays and $55 million in wages. BTW: Other studies indicate that 4 percent of homicides occur at work.
