OLYMPICS . . . NOT IN YOUR BACK YARD

The 1996 Olympic Games' volleyball competition won't happen as planned in suburban -- and anti-gay -- Cobb County, Georgia. Gay activists and some athletes, including Olympic gold-medalist diver Greg Louganis, finally persuaded the Atlanta games' organizers to switch the site to nearby Athens after Cobb County commissioners refused to recant an August resolution condemning homosexuality. County officials didn't seem to mind much, since volleyball's medal rounds were scheduled for Atlanta anyway.
