PAYING UP

Agriculture Secretary Michael Espy is making payments for gifts he may have improperly accepted, the Associated Press reports. Espy wrote several checks worth hundreds of dollars to a trade group representing pesticide manufacturers, an Atlanta museum that gave him Super Bowl tickets, and a cereal company. He also reimbursed the feds $6,200 for the personal use of a government jeep. Despite the repayments, and an ongoing government investigation, Espy says he didn't do anything wrong or unethical.
