MONEY FUND YIELDS TOP 5% FOR THE FIRST TIME IN YEARS

The latest report on money market fund yields shows that some funds have been paying more than 5% during the past week, the highest in years. The top performer was the Benham Prime Money Market Fund, based in Mountain View, Calif., which was yielding 5.06%. In second place, yielding 5%, was the OLDE Premium Plus Money Market Series, available through the discount broker OLDE. The average money market fund is still paying only 4.29%, though, according to the weekly report by IBC/Donoghue.
